October 15: Children of the Corn. Rating: 2/5. Comment: This film is a giant disappointment. What’s the main culprit? Is it the dull, dragging script (which alters the majority of the Stephen King short story to the point of being nearly unrecognizable)? Is it the shockingly terrible acting (that’s right, I called the acting of a cast made almost entirely of children terrible, and you would, too, if you watched it)? Is it the lame ending based solely on the Deus ex Machina of burning the cornfield with the conveniently located full tank of gas to rid it of a supernatural demon? Is it the laughable graphics (and, I know, what can one truly expect from a 1984 flick, but these are bad even for the era)? Is it the fact that the children shouted the phrase “Seize her!” twice during the last hour of the movie? Can’t it be all of these, and more? The answer, of course, is yes. Yes, it can.
Peace and love.
