October 23, 2016 Fall Frightfest

Standard

October 23: Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare. Rating: 2/5. Comment: Each time I watch a movie in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, I hope it will be as good as the first. Unfortunately, somewhere along the line, the writers decided to take a truly terrifying, inherently evil, nearly silent villain and turn him into a rakish prankster whose dry puns define the term “dad jokes.” Is he dead? Is he not dead? Didn’t we do the whole bring-him-into-our-world-to-try-to-kill-him thing before? How did his daughter know how to pin him to a wall with throwing stars? These are questions we may never have the answers to. (He’s not dead. Nancy pulled him out of her dream. It’s clearly a deus ex machina.)

Peace and love.
